Shae Day: Wrap up the Sugar Cookies!

It has been on my mind lately that starting our own family traditions was extremely important at this time. So, for Halloween, Shae and I decided to make Sugar Cookies.

This is a family favorite and usually Aunt Babe makes them and we just lurch off of her and eat all of her cookies. This year, I decided that it was time to try it on my own and if sucessful, we would continue the cookies on at our home.

Here is the recipe for our favorite sugar cookies in the world:

1 Cup Butter (room temperature)
2 Cups of Sugar
2 Eggs
3 tsp Vanilla
6 Cups of Flour
2 tps of Baking Soda
1 tps of Salt
1 Cup of Sour Cream

Mix all ingredients together. Refrigerate dough over night. (I split my cookie dough in 2 pieces placed it in plastic wrap)

Shae helping me on Day 1!

The following day: Place dough on floured top and roll out. Cookie cut out any favorite design. We went with a moon, cat, pumpkin and a ghost.

Place on cookie sheet and bake 400 degress for 8-10 minutes. While cookies are cooling, you can make the frosting:
8 oz Cream Cheese (room temperature)
1/4 Cup Butter (room temperature)
2 tsp of Milk
1 tsp of Vanilla
Up to 4 cups of Powedered Sugar (Depends on the consistency of the frosting,
I only made it to 2 cups)
Then add food coloring and Frost till your little hearts desire!
Here is Shae having a ball frosting away!

Me and Shae frosting together, she doesn't get to have all the fun!

Our finished works of art! 3 days and these babies were gone!

Happy Halloween and watch out for the scary sugar rush!

Now I'm craving sugar cookies. Looks like you two had a lot of fun.

Oh and the naughty ugly doll thing is on the counter top. Obviously trying to steal some of those cookies.

Fun!
Good thing I wasn't by this weekend.. I would have probably eaten them all.

That is our sugar cookie recipe too. I think the sour cream keeps them soft. I also love to make the frosting.. When you make it instead of using the store bought kind in a can, you can seriously eat the entire bowl! Maybe I'd better not make them this year...

Finally you post and Janet beats me to the punch. I have been checking for three days. Congratulations Janet. The gloves are off. Oops, not till I get back from NYC.

Give Shaeler lots of cookies (sugar rushes) and kisses from grandma.

BTW Mindy passed all her tests! She is excited to celebrate.

Looks like fun to me! That little nasty guy obviously stole too many cookies...he is passed out on the table suffering from a diabetic coma!

Oh..I didn't realize this was different post for a day or so! This definitely is getting me in the mood to get in the kitchen. I have such a weakness for eating all the dough, though!

Isn't everything better with sour cream? Seriously. I will be making these on Saturday!

I think your daughter looks exactly like YOU. She's beautiful.

It still kills me to see how much Shaeler looks like you when you were little:)
I am with you on establishing traditions. I want my kids to grow up remembering the things we did year after year, especially on the holidays. I just bought "Elf on the Shelf"--it reminded me of the nasty little man! Its a book that comes with a little elf. I thought it would be a fun tradition...
I wanna go make sugar cookies now, by the way...

Too cute! Now, how come I never look that good when I am making cookies? Seriously! I should do stuff like that with my kids, but it usually ends up them sticking around for about 20 minutes and leaving me by my lonesome. Maybe if I dressed nicer and wore makeup, that must be the key!!!!
