Setting a High Standard!

I was speaking tonight with one of the parents that has a Young Woman and Young Man that we work with. I am amazed by her children and the example that they set. Especially their son. He is the all around kid. He is a soccer player, a good student, oh and he is absolutely gorgeous and yet the most important thing to him is honoring his family and his testimony. She was telling me that he had some friends spend the night on Friday and when she went downstairs to wake them for GC, they were already up, making breakfast and preparing to watch Conference on their own. They stood together as friends that held the Aaronic Priesthood and sustained President Monson. It is true that friends make all the difference in a youths life. He and his friends are preparing for their missions and living a very high standard when it comes to girls and school. A and his friends are the exception to what I see to the majority of the boys of today. I was horrified when the Stake Young Men's President asked the boys of who was planning to go on a mission, and about a 1/3 raised their hand. To me, that was scary! From what I see, we need more youth like A and his friends. These are the kind of kids we need for tomorrow.

It reminded me of some boys I knew a while back. My husband was not the most spiritual kid, but he had a strong testimony to go to church every week and he had great friends to support him to stay good. (Well most of the time unless a couple of friends brought out the rebel in him). Although they did typical boy things, he and his friends all went on missions, are today Priesthood holders and are wonderful fathers and husbands. It says a lot about who you hang out with will develop who you become. I thank Chad and Jordan for being incredible friends to Brian. They were there in every stage of Brian's life and are still today. Brian has known these guys since childhood and I think that a friendship that lasts that long is priceless. They still maintain a high standard of living the gospel and I wish the boys that I work with could catch a glimpse of what Brian and his friends have and do. I envy his friendships. These are honorable men and I am proud to call them my friends too.

Maybe Brian and his friends were just like the Young Men are that I see today. But I can only cross my fingers that they make the same decisions that he and his friends did to do what they knew what was right. If the Young Men need an example to follow, they don't have to look too far. The examples they need are all around them, they just need the maturity to recognize it and want to follow it.

OH MY GOSH! I'm so glad you posted this picture!! I was laughing so hard! Looking at all of them with all of their hair! I told Chad that that they all have on the UGLIEST ties! But, I agree totally... They are all great guys with good standards. Great friends that make you a better person and/or want to be better is one of the greatest gifts in the world! I'm glad I met good girlfriends through these good guys!

Those young men look really familar. I think I saw them once at a JB's breakfast buffet or something like that. Great guys, great friends, great memories. Now I feel really old, you're killing me with all these old pictures Suzanne. I love it! Now to go digging in my old picture box.

The ties!!! Oh, I know!! I think Brian still has that tie, Chad's tie looks like it has a large eye ball on it, and Jordan looks like a tropical Mickey Mouse tie! What were they thinking??

And I just showed Shaeler the picture and asked her if she knew who those boys were. She didn't. I then told her that was Jordan, Chadey and Daddy. She turned to me and said "That's my daddy??!! He has silly hair." Forgot that Shaeler has never seen Brian with hair. Ha Ha!

I asked Tenney and Christian who they were also, and she didn't recognize any of them either. I had to tell her it was Chad even. Now.... I've got to look through Chad's closet for that tie....

I'm sure Jordan still has that tie. It is probably mixed in with the 300 otheres that he bought on his mission!

Had really had to do a double take on the picture. I noticed Brian right of, had to really look at it to recognize Jordan and didn't recognize Chad until I read the the post! That picture is awesome!

I totally agree about the friendships. I know first hand what happenes when you get involved with people that don't have the same standards. You don't think they are bad people, they just bring you done instead of trying to uplift you. Jordan wouldn't be who he is today without the deep friendships that he has with Brian, Chad, and Jason. He considers Brian is brother. Always has and always will.

Suzanne~ All I can say is HILLARIOUS! I just quickly glanced at the picture and then started to read. I totally thought you had just used a picture of some nice Mormon boys from the Ensign or somthing.
I think those ties are right up there with the sunflower ties I made my brothers wear to our wedding!

I look at this picture and I see the handsome 17 year old that fell in love with my beautiful 13 year old. Oh how time changes things. Jordan looks like he always looks in my mind when I think of him. Remember that was when he spent a lot of time with our family. Once again, memories....

I absolutely LOVE this picture! This is why I went into photography: picures are always how I connect with the past. Remembering how you looked, who your friends were, what you felt like, and what you thought about. Nothing does that for me like a good photograph! This photo needs to be mounted and framed on all three of their office walls! :-)
