Remember Who You Are!

I am always telling the Young Women to "Remember Who You Are." The majority of that statement is to have them evaluate who they are now, who they were in the pre-existance and what they are to become. Part of that is reflecting on the small memories or moments that help build who we are today.

Ann has called it "Flashback Friday" and I am going to call my memories "Remember Who You Are!" These memories have affected my personalty, my spirit and have really help shape me into who I am today. Ok so here is the first memory!

This is one of my favoriet childhood pictures. I don't know why, but I always laugh when I see it. As a ward, we had to build a float for the 24th of July Parade and all of the Primary Children got to attend and dress as gnomes. (Mom and Janet, if I leave any holes or you remember differently, please feel free to comment. I believe I was only 4 or 5 years old, so it is not all crystal clear.) I think my mom was the Primary President at that time. I remeber going over to the Clayton's garage and working on the float which I believe had a ton of tissue paper on it. I remember going over to the Bishop's house to be fitted for the hat and skirt. And get a load of those costumes. Hats off to whomever convinced an entire Primary to wear outfits like that!! I look at the picture and I feel that I totally look like a Gnome child. Look at those cheeks. Could my face be any rounder and what is up with the expression. Must have been in character or something.

Behind us is a Vietnamese girl who was my babysitter. Her name was Heidi. I absolutely loved and adored Heidi. I belive that brown car was the station wagon my parents owned when I was little too. We also owned a yellow toyota truck that I remember pulling the float down the parade. I got to sit in the back of the truck and wave to people. I cannot remember where Janet ended up, I hope it wasn't the the poor kids that had to walk.

Why I love this moment in life is that as a child, it was impressed upon me what great things can happen when a community pulls together. Everyone helped and I had a great time being involved. That we should care about our neighbors and help one another out.

So there you have it!! Good times and I was a Gnome once in my life.

Suz, you made my day...Thank you! I don't know what is funnier; the vehicles in the background, our hair, or the fact that my husband asked if I still had that outfit. *rolls eyes*
I remember when that picture was taken we had a practice parade around the neighborhood. Mom and dad have it on video I think.
I remember that Andra, Teresa, Alli and I spent a lot of time decorating our bikes for the practice parade.
As for the parade itself I remember that it was a warm morning, but I loved looking at all the tall old buildings. I ended up walking behind you in the yellow truck, but someone had given us those little pinwheel fans which became my waving wand.
Thank you for including me in your post.

This brings back great memories for me too. Everyone enjoyed the around-the-block parade. We even had a fire truck. The day of the parade down town was perfect. When I see this picture all I see are two beautiful angels.

I don't know about your crazy parade, but speaking of memories.... Today I was making Sam a peanut butter and apricot jelly sandwich. In true pregnancy fashion my fumble fingers dropped the jam on the floor and it splashed all over the place. For some reason it totally reminded me of Grandma's apricot tree. All the many hours we spent playing in that tree and swinging from the tire swing. And of course all those dreadful rotten apricots we had to pick off the ground every year. Good times, heh heh.

I love the memory thing. I have so many pictures that I need to get from my parents now. I even look back through the ones of Trae when he was little and memories just start flooding my brain. Way to go!
