The Magic of a Kiss or Not Kiss!

I use to hate the thought of when Brian would leave town and I would be home alone. He has been doing a lot of work out of town and so I have started a little ritual of when he does. I either read or watch my favorite love stories or movies that he did not want to see.

Yesterday, I went to Blockbuster and rented Sense and Sensibility. I am a huge Jane Austen fan and have always wanted to see that movie. I really loved the story, however, I had the hardest time getting over Emma Thompson playing a young girl and all I kept seeing was a 40 year old. Don't get me wrong, she did a FANTASTIC job, it was my own perception of her that wasn't doing it for me. After watching that movie, I remembered that I have been aching to see Pride and Prejudice again.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. For me, this is my #1 romance movie. I prefer the Pride and Prejudice with Kierra Knightly more than the BBC version with Collin Firth. He scares me! In my opinion, he looks at women very creepily! Anyway, after watching my movie night, it got me thinking a ton about the magic of a kiss.

What is it about a kiss that makes it so magical? When you think about the mechanics of it, its kind of disgusting with all of the germs and mircro-organims being exhchanged. And I believe they say that the human bite is the deadlist. What are we doing kissing? It's like we are playing with fire!

Doesn't matter, the kiss or sometimes even better the lead into a kiss can be knee weakening. I would like to demonstrate my 3 favorite kisses of all time to prove my point.

#1 - Pride and Prejudice (2005)



For me, hands down my favorite on screen kiss or not kiss is Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy! The scene where Darcy is walking through the field towards her and when they reach he says "My affections and feelings for you have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If your feelings have changed, I have to tell you, you have betwitched me body and soul and I love, I love you. And I wish to not be parted from you from this day on."

OK, if you have seen the movie, I don't have to say any more. If you haven't, this scene is so intense. After he proclaims his love for her, she takes his hand, kisses it and says "your hands are cold." They then lean their heads together and the camera pans so you just see the silhouettes of their faces and the sun shining through. I don't know why, but this is EXTREMELY gratifying for me. I need a cold shower and they didn't even do anything.

#2 Twilight - By Stephenie Meyer



I am a HUGE Twilight fan. I would like to take credit for bringing Twilight into my ward/neighborhood. My next favorite kiss is with Edward and Bella. The way Meyer writes is like watching a movie. There are many scenes with Edward and Bella that are cold shower worthy. Today, I bring up the scene at the jeep before the baseball game.

"He placed his hands against the Jeep on either side of my head and leaned forward, forcing me to press back against the door. He leaned in even closer, his face inches from mine. I had no room to escape.

"Now," he breathed, and just his smell disturbed my thought process, "what exactly are you worrying about?" "Well, um, hitting a tree-" I gulped "-and dying. And then getting sick." He fought back a smile. Then he bent his head down and touched his cold lips softly to the hollow at the base of my throat. "Are you still worried now?" he murmuredd against my skin. "Yes." I struggled to concentrate. "About hitting trees and getting sick." His nose drew a line up the skin of my throat to the point of my chin. His cold breath tickled my skin. "And now?" His lips whispered against my jaw. "Trees," I gasped. "Motion Sickness." He lifted my face to kiss my eyelids. "Bella, you don't really think I would hit a tree, do you?" "No but I might." There was no confidence in my voice. He smelled an easy victory. He kissed slowly down my cheek, stopping just at the corner of my mouth. "Would I let a tree hurt you?" His lips barely brushed against my trembling lower lips. "No," I breathed. I knew there was a second part to my brilliant defense, but I couldn't quite call it back. "You see," he said, his lips moving against mine. "There's nothing to be afraid of, is there?" "No," I sighed, giving up. Then he took my face in his hands almost roughly, and kissed me in earnest, his unyielding lips moving against mine. There really was no excuse for my behavior. Obviously I knew better now. And yet I couldn't seem to stop from reacting exactly as I had the first time. Instead of keeping safely motionless, my arms reached up to twine tightly around his neck and I was suddenly welded to his stone figure. I sighed, and my lips parted."

Yeah, I know, REALLY good. Soemthing about the forbidden kiss is just incredible to me. LOVE IT!

#3 The Princess Bride (1987)



Some peopel either love or hate this movie. I loved it. I was 8 years old when I saw this movie and it was my favorite romance as a child. Here are some of my favorite lines:

Grandpa: [voiceover] Nothing gave Buttercup as much pleasure as ordering Westley around.
Buttercup: Farm boy, polish my horse's saddle. I want to see my face shining in it by morning.
Westley: As you wish.
Grandpa: [voiceover] "As you wish" was all he ever said to her.
Buttercup: Farm boy, fill these with water - please.
Westley: As you wish.
Grandpa: [voiceover] That day, she was amazed to discover that when he was saying "As you wish", what he meant was, "I love you." And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved him back.
Buttercup: Farm boy... fetch me that pitcher.
[It's right over her head, so he has to stand next to her]
Westley: As you wish.
[Cut to them kissing]

Westley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn't you wait for me?
Buttercup: Well... you were dead.
Westley: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.
Buttercup: I will never doubt again.
Westley: There will never be a need

I love how they are so loyal to each other and that they have to fight for their love. Truly a beautiful kiss at the beginning and ending of the movie.

I've heard that John Tesh has recommended that to make a marriage work, you should kiss each other 3 times a day for 10 seconds. Wow, that is a long kiss, but why not? I have had my own personal magical moments and why not create more?
