These are a Few of My Favorite Things!

Ann tagged last week for 10 Favorites/10 Rooms. I was heading off to Trek and decided to post this tag when I had some time. So here are my 10 favorite things in my home.

1. My favorite saying:

This is one of my most favorite sayings in all the world. It is placed in our breakfast nook and in our kitchen so I see it every day. Harold B Lee gave a wonderful speech at BYU callled Be Loyal to the Royal Within You. I loved this speech because it reminds me of the divinity that I inherited and the responsibility that comes with it. Hence, the title of my blog is the same.

2. My Hope Chest

In my bedroom, my favorite thing is my hope chest. On my 18th birthday, I wanted a hope chest and as I shopped around, I fell in love with this one. It was large and very simple and I loved that it had a wood top. The price of the chest was $500 and my parents said that they would meet me half way on paying for it. I had to work hard to save money to buy this chest. This is one of the first things I ever bought that I had to earn. What a huge lesson it taught me on working hard for something and then taking care of it because of all the hard work. I keep all of my life memories in this chest in hopes that one day, when my children or grand children go through it, they will have found a huge treasure. This is where they will get to know me and the life I lived.

3. My Prayer Tile

This is a tile I made about 9 months ago at my MIL Ward's Super Saturday. I placed this in my bathroom because every morning, the first thing I do is go to the bathroom. As I am going, this little reminder is right in my face and I know that when I am done with my business, my next priority is to pray. It is very simple and yet direct. I see it every day no matter what and I love it!

4. My Shelf

In my closet I have a shelf where we store our socks, my jewelry and blankets. On top of these shelves in front of the window to my closet, I have my little daily reminders of what is important to me. First, I have the picture of the Savior that says "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it." This is one of my most favorite pictures and this saying really hits home to me. The blue picture frame is a mission statement I have typed for my life mission. I have laid it out very clearly on what I want to accomplish and do with me life and I can read it every morning to remember who I am and what my purpose is. The piggy bank in the back is a reminder to me that I am the boss of my money and that saving is the sweetest thing to me. Last, I have a tea cup of my grandmothers that I inherited when she died. I really did not appreciate this gift she gave to me until I started to do my genealogy work. The cup reminds me of the ancestors I come from and the sacrifices they made for my behalf. I feel a closeness to them now and I like this little reminder to never forget them.

5. The Best Frame

This is a frame I have just outside my mud room. I love this little saying because in essence it is everything that I thrive off of. It says:

Believe in the best
Think your best
Act your best
Do your best
And never ever settle
For less than your best.

It is my type of personality to give everything I do my absolute 100% best. I cannot help it, it is just who I am. This little frame sums it up for me and when I get discouraged, I read it to remind me of who I really am.

6. My garden

My garden, I love my garden. This is my second year gardening and I have loved every minute of it. I absolutely HATE getting dirt under my nails, but slap a pair of gloves on me and I will happily play in the dirt. I love sitting in my garden pulling the weeds and I like the smell of dirt. I am AMAZED that these wonderful plants start from a little tiny seed. My garden has a ton of spiritual lessons for me which is why I am out there sitting in the middle of it in deep thought. It is a happy place for me and one of my favorite places to go.

7. The Rock Bridge

The rock bridge in my front yard. Brian shares with me that he wants a dry creek bed in our front yard when we built this home. I was really excited for this idea, but we would argue back and forth on what kind of bridge to put over the creek. I have no visualization skills, and so when he told me a rock bridge, I had the hardest time imagining what that would look like. So one day, we head to the rock quarrey and he picks out this huge large piece of stone. Months before we had moved many rocks for our stairway and patio and I knew this piece was one heavy sucker. It took 4 men to put this baby in place and I absolutely love it. Our neigbor kids like to come over and walk across it and on one side of the bride is a stone path that leads to our back yard. We have planted ground cover in between the stone path and it is starting to look Awesome! I find myself walking across it like a little girl too. No, it is not that big of a bridge, but a girl can dream, right?

8. My food storage

Ah, the food storage! I could not get all of it in with this one shot, but I love going down into the cold storage and looking at the food storage I have. It is not a ton, but I am gratified with the law of obedience that I am participating in. We come down lots and add to it every week. I like have the mini grocery store downstairs. Not only am I a banker, but I own my own grocery store too. Who knew that I would be taking on so many new jobs this year?

9. The Holy Treadmill

This is my treadmill. One of my favorite stress and anxiety reducers. We bought this bad boy for half the retail listed price! We thought for sure it would fall apart after 90 days, but it is going strong as ever. This is the place I go to walk and think out my lessons, wonder how to make relationships better and burn a few calories. In the summer time, my friend gets neglected but it gets plenty of use in the winter. Exercise is a tool for me to clear my mind and try to figure things out maturely. I am not one to have the quickest thinking mind, I need to think things through and this is my holy place to do it! I love my treadmill.

10. The book cases

Last, but not least, the book cases in my office. I know what your thinking right now! "What a mess!" But in essence, here you are looking at my brain and everything important to me. Books about religion, Ensigns, New Eras, old GC tapes, health books, childrens books, story books. I have pictures of the temples, my family, my wedding day, my graduation day, Shae and the Brother of Jared. If you could crack my head open and see what I am thinking about, there it is! All crammed and messy on 2 book shelves. Some of the greatest treasures to me are words and thoughts and books are just priceless to me! Love my books!

WOW! Your garden looks amazing and I love the dry rock river bed and bridge in the front yard.
But my favorite is the little shelf in your closet.

That was really fun to see! This is a great idea for a tag--I still want to do it. I love your "best" quote--that's a great one to live by.

I love your hope chest. I wish I would have put more thought into choosing mine....it's just not what I'd choose now.
I'm coveting your food storage and yout garden, both are things I really want. I am making some progress in the food storage area, but not so much in the garden, it's just too overwhelming to me!
