One O'Clock and All Is Well!

Do you remember that scene in Disney's Robin hood, where the Sheriff of Nottingham and the 2 vultures are guarding the prison with all of the towns people in it. Robin and Little John are trying to sneak in and save Friar Tuck because Prince John was planning to hang him in the morning. There is a line in that scene that is a family classic where Nutsy, one of the vultures, slams down his javelin as the clock tower rings "One o'clock and all is well!"

As we were leaving the emergency room at 1:00 in the morning, I could hear Nutsy crying out these exact words in my head. We are now officially part of the ER club for children. Last night, as were visiting some friends, Shae fell on a baby bike and cut her chin open. She came crying to me with blood all over her and I was petrified. We ran around town trying to find an after hours clinic to help us, but all were closed. I would like to know why people use "after hours" when they are not open "after hours." Accidents happen late at night.

I slowly succumbed to the fact that we were going to have to go to the Emergency Room. I hate the ER. It takes too long, it costs a fortune and I have heard a few horror stories of stitches at this particular hospital. At this point, I had no other place to go. Shaeler kept asking "what are stitches" and "I don't want to go to the hospital." We were hoping that the cut was not deep enough and maybe she would just need a butterfly band aid or something.

As the doctors came in, they immediately started numbing her and stitches were necessary. At this point, Shae was getting scared because she had no idea what they were going to do to her and Brian would not allow me to explain that it was kind of like what mommy does with a button.
I whispered to her that she needed to be a very brave girl and do whatever the doctors told her to do. She did not need to cry because dad and I are right here to be with her.

As a mother, nothing is harder to watch your helpless hurt, child on a bed and there is nothing that I could do. It was out of my hands and I had to depend on someone that had the knowledge to take care of my little girl. The most important thing in my life and I had to trust someone else. Wow, that is a hard thing to do as a mother. Guilt and sorrow was a little overwhelming. As she laid on the bed to be poked several times by a numbing shot, she held still the best she could but was wincing. Brian grabbed her hand and I grabbed her ankle and then she was still. So still, the doctors were amazed.

They were completely amazed at how brave and still Shae was for the doctors and nurses. They just kept repeating, "I can't believe how brave she is and she is so still." She earned a Popsicle to eat on the way home at 1:00 in the morning. The nurse asked if I minded and at that point, I really did not care. I just wanted to get my baby and my little family home. Home is safe and home is where I wanted to be.

Here is Shae's trophy shot of 8 stitches.

Oh my. Flash back!!!!!!!!! I remember your eye and how helpless I felt. These are things you survive, but they leave a bigger scar in your heart than on your child's face. I am so sorry that you had to go through this. Thank goodness she had you and Brian there for her to be so brave.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Wow! Seems like you guys have had quite the week! Between scary drivers, stitches, and ER visits - I think you are just about done for the year! What a good little girl you have, well done Shae!

P.S. I like Robin Hood too!

Give Shae lots of hugs and kisses from us. She is such a brave little girl and you are an amazing mom. I've been in that ER room feeling those feelings and it is the worse thing is the world. My heart goes out to parents who have their kids in hospitals for long periods of time or sicknesses that are not solved by a quick ER visit.

The kids are making get well cards and I will send them out tomorrow.

oh, poor little girl!!! I haven't had to deal with stiches yet but I'm sure I will. It's part of the parenting experience! Glad to hear how brave she was.
Doesn't everyone have a chin scar from stiches? I do!
