I Opened a Can of Worms........

The other day as Shae and I were running some errands, my eyes were distracted and I blurted out something I should not have said.

We were pulling out of the gas station and I see this HUGE, GIGANTIC bird sitting on top of the telephone poll. It caught my attention because it was all fluffed up and wiggling around. The next thing I see is another HUGE, GIGANTIC bird flying above the other one and landing on top of the other one.

Oh no!

I blurted out "Look at those HUGE, GIGANTIC birds mating on top of that pole!!!!!"

Holy cow, I had never seen something like THAT before and as I am staring in amazement, I then hear the little voice in the back seat.

"Mommy, what is mating?"

OH NO!!

What did I say and now I have to explain!!

"Ummm..................." is all I could spew out of my mouth.

"Ummmm......................"

Innocently again the voice from the back seat: "What is mating?"

Silence.............

"It is when 2 birds are standing next to each other" was all that I could word vomit out.

So there you have it. My intelligence failed me in the moment of desperation. I was a complet blank. I knew one day this would happen however, I completely forgot that animals will do it anywhere, anytime, any place. Dang it! Didn't see that one coming at all.
Ever happen to you before? Do share!

That's hilarious! I think all of us have had to deal with that question at some point from our kids...
You beat me to the "THANK YOU" punch! I have already enjoyed the new spring outfit I was able to create! I love fun jewelry and didn't have anything like it. The fun flower pen will make my notes even more exciting to write!! THANKS again for such a fun surprise!

I think you did great! If she was happy with the answer then no more needed to be said! ha ha

Those moments ARE a little awkward though - So funny when they start asking questions :D

That is so funny!! Typical girl. My boys are CLULESS but nothing gets past Natalie--I swear the girl has bionic ears. Get used to keeping your mouth shut from now on (or you'll pay for it over and over!).

I love that you were "talking to yourself" and your daughter overheard! LOL. I have totally done that myself. Don't worry, mating is two birds standing next to each other, at least that's what you can tell her up until the 5th grade maturation program. You've still got a few more innocent years left...
