GBKHR 2009 - The Spruces

One thing I love about living in Utah, is that within in a 30 minute drive you can be in a completely different world. And you are not too far from home!
This summer, we decided to go camping with our friends up to the Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon. I have never been there, so this was a first for me.
What a beautiful, green getaway to escape for a day or so!

We were able to bring with us the family trailer, and Shae was ECSTATIC!! She LOVES the trailer and playing house, or restaurant or whatever else she can think of.

She really loved being able to play with the other children. Here is Shae with Mary Caroline. She loves to pretend to be a big sister and she loved hangin with Mary Caroline.

The other aspect that Shae loves is the S'mores. I heard non stop "Can we make Smores now?"

A shot of me and Shae!

When we had arrived on Friday, Jordan, Katie, Chad and Ann had already set up camp. They arrived the day before and were playing games and laughing when we had arrived. So thankful for the canvas with the rain!

Chad was dubbed the "fan master" because every time the fire would start to go out, he would do his fanning magic and voila, the fire was back!

The men spent quite a bit of time chopping wood and for me it was great to watch. It brings me great joy to watch Brian work, and I will leave it at that!

We have had rain like crazy up here, so to find joy in the journey I am enjoying the greenery. We stayed away from the rapid river of the canyon, however we loved to climb over logs and play around these small streams.

Shae wearing her rain coat and enjoying the woods.

Mary Caroline is so dang cute! I had to post this picture of her because every time I turned the camera to her, she would grin the funniest little grin!

Due to the rain and tired children, the Snipe hunt did not happent until the following morning. It took a lot of the fun out of the game, however, Ann and I used it as a great opportunity for photos. This is them banging their sticks on a log. Can't you see the snipe behind them? I did!

We had a wonderful time and we look forward to be able to go camping again very soon!

Happy GBKHR 2009!

I love your pictures!
I'm going to have to steal some.. The one with Mary Caroline all by herself is so great!

The one with her and Shae in the camper.. ha-ha.. She was always a mess! :) Shae was a good "babysitter"..

My chopping wood pictures all came out blurry.. So sad. I know what you mean about seeing your own spouse chop wood.. SEXY STUFF!

Can't wait for next year! It's needs to be a little longer...

PS: I had 12 loads of laundry between coats, sheets, and clothes.. :) we were exhasted too!

I agree with Ann, next year needs to be alittle longer and not anywhere close to baseball or scouts. I feel like we hardly saw you guys.

It was a great trip though. I had a blast and we definately need to do it again.

Great pictures too!

Oh you guys looked like you had so much fun, I am so jealous of your weather. I think we will visit soon, but then we will probably bring the heat with us. I loved the picture of you and Shae, which I have now saved to my laptop. ;)

Kids and I send our love.

Sounds like everyone had a wonderful time except for the rain. One good thing is the rain makes everything look soooooo green!

Plz give Shae a frizzie from me and Bob.

I loved seeing your pictures and Ann's as well...you got a lot of great ones (yet different too)! Fun! Mike and I are doing a "Staycation" with our friends this summer to save some money and doing stuff around Utah. Thanks for some inspiration!

Oh wow..you guys all went! It looks like you had so much fun! I think that Utah is the best place to camp (not that I've been many places!) but I just love it..it's so gorgeous! Gosh....that just gets me in the mood to get outside in a tent! It's seriously rained off and on here for like two months and it is getting majorly old! I need summer....with my old friend...the sun!
