Change will Come but my Love is Always the same!

A couple of weeks ago, I joined the ranks of babbling, sobbing mothers as I sent my child to Kindergarten. What a big change to have happen in our lives to have our baby starting school and to leave me alone in the afternoons. I find myself quite often asking the cat "Where's Shaeler?"

Something that I found that helped me that others have done to help their child cope (and I believe the mothers cope too) is to read the book:

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

This book is about a young racoon who is leaving his mother to go to school. He doesn't want to go and so his mother teaches him a life long secret, the kissing hand.

I gave Shae a kiss on her hand before she left for her first day of school. With it was a prayer of:

Please let this change be brief and that she may adapt quickly.

Please bless her that she knows that she is not alone and that there are others who think of her and love her.

Please bless her that she may make friends quickly.

Please bless her that she will like her teacher and want to go back tomorrow, and then hopefully the next day and the next.

I leave her in the hands of others because she will learn better that way (for some reason, mom is clueless, but if someone else says it THEN it makes sense)

I cried as I dropped her off in her classroom and left her to fight her battles on her own.

But when I saw her come out 30 minutes later for the flag ceremony....

It was clear to me that she would fit in just fine.

A big day for both of you. I am sure you will both handle it like champs!

The Kissing Hand is a great book and one I read often to Jackson before he started school. I am sure it will carry you both through this transition.

It gets easier as they get older. Trae gets so excited now for the start of a new year.

Cute pictures too!

Love the picture of Shaeler. She looks so grown up.

What did Grandma Reader think of her books?

I know I'm going to be a big fat mess when PK finally goes off to school. Maybe pre-school will prepare me for the big K. I'll have to check out that book, I've never seen it before! Good luck!

I don't look forward to that day. I will be joining the sobbing mothers club too. Thanks for the tip on the book. I will have to get that one. I love children's books. I hope the rest of the day went well for Shea. She does look adorable in her uniform.

I LOVE the kissing hand. We, ok, I had so much fun using it for pre-school this year.
It's SO hard, yet so rewarding at the same time to watch your kids grow up! It's going to happen no matter what, so you may as well enjoy each moment!

Oh Suzanne! I feel for you! I'm going to need to get that book, I'm sure that that was such a hard thing to let your little baby go...With a mother like you, she'll be just fine!
